Many companies that are in the market for a new edgebander are faced with the problem, how can I differentiate between one edgebander and another? In order to help with this question, Biesse offer a more consultative approach to dealing with customers, and so when Paul Ambrose (Biesse UK) first approached Steve Brooks (Technical Director, I-Desk Solutions) to update his current edgebander, this provided a perfect opportunity for Paul Ambrose to demonstrate this consultative approach.

During the consulting process it became apparent that there were certain features of the BiesseArtech Akron 435 that would be advantageous to I-Desk Solutions. These included;

• The ability to edge band on nested panels which have holes close to the panel
• Consistently clean, quality finish on both thin and thick tape applications
• Minimal operator intervention regarding setting

The machine specification of the Akron 435 allows most adjustments and settings to be carried out with NC servo motors through the user interface. Other features on the machine include;

• The patented "pro nest"
• An edgebanding chain track which is the heaviest in its class for this type of application
• Multi function fine trimming units with the ability to process both thick and thin edges within the following parameters; 25° bevel; 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm radius

In short, the machine is capable of producing a panel edgebanded on all 4 sides in a thick PVC edge with corners rounded and edgebanded on all 4 sides in a thin edging tape, and on all 4 sides with a 12mm solid wood lipping.
